Worked out well. Just as you said. I used a shucking type knife to slide in behind the lens, THEN used a plastic coated wire to slide behind the knife. Just a slight pull on the wire, and the lenses popped out. Clear/white lenses look good. I may look into doing the same switch with the rear (non-bulb) lense reflectors.
